There Has To Be A Better Way

Just got back from my men’s retreat—and one theme echoed louder than any other throughout the group of high performers… We’re tired.
And not just like “I need a nap” tired. Like soul tired. Maybe you’ve felt that too.

At the retreat, we dive deep into faith, family, and business. And year after year, the Holy Spirit never leaves room for confusion—He shows us exactly where He’s calling us to press in.

And this year, guy after guy, father after father, business owner after business owner kept saying the same thing: “I’m tired.”

Not because we’re lazy. Not because we don’t care.
But because we do care.
We care about providing.
We care about being present.
We care about stewarding what God has given us.

And yet… in all that caring, we find ourselves exhausted. Worn out. Striving for good things—but doing it in a way that leaves us spiritually dry.

A friend paraphrased Psalm 127:2, saying: “It is vain to toil early and stay up late for what you need, because God provides for His beloved—even while they sleep.”
To which I replied: “Yeah… the toiling has taken its toll. I have the change something”

We came to one conclusion: There has to be a better way.
A way to pursue purpose without burning out.
To expand the Kingdom without losing your peace.
To love others without neglecting your soul.

So how do we start living that way? Here are a few small, but powerful shifts:

  • Invite God in — Don’t just do things for God, do them with Him. Involve Him in every decision, every detail, every thought… not just the big ones.

  • Build check-in moments — Do you have people who can speak into your life when you’re overextended or emotionally tapped out? Let them in. Better yet, message them right now and ask them to hold you accountable!

  • Set non-negotiable boundaries — For me, it’s one hour of prayer each day. If I don’t have time to pray, I don’t have time to do anything else.

You might not be able to change your entire schedule tomorrow. But you can start walking in a better way—one step at a time.

Jesus wasn’t striving. He moved with purpose.
So maybe it’s time we stop wearing “busy” as a badge of honor… and start fighting for the kind of rest that only He provides.

I was moved to tears as Dr. Jackson points out that if it were a 100+ year old man requiring a 30+ year old man to be a sacrifice, there would be a strength/ability disparity thus requiring some sort of submission on Issac’s behalf.
