you ever just feel stuck? like you can’t get out of the same old situation, habits, or life circumstance? it can feel like a vicious cycle.
We feel like we are in one of those right now… Currently, our oldest is having issues staying asleep for both nap time and bedtime. And I (chad) work during his sleep windows, so, needless to say I haven’t gotten much work done aside from my frustration being worked up. I go into problem solving mode and wonder if his lack of playtime isn’t leaving him exhausted enough for a deep sleep? But, because he wakes up after such short periods and I am not able to get done what I need to get done, I end up having to multitask during his wake windows and that leads to him not being exhausted enough in playtime and the vicious cycle starts over.
different day same story.
These vicious cycles can look like anything though… They can be as deep as the son who picks up poor drinking habits because that’s what his dad and his dad’s dad did before him. Or they can look like the daughter who struggles with weight gain and the stress of it causes her to stress eat which makes things worse and worse.
Our lives can be full of these vicious cycles. So how do we break them?
Do you have any vicious cycles you want to break?
I had a conversation with someone recently where I said “I’m going to head butt this ceiling until it breaks” & I meant it. At one point or another you need to break the vicious cycle. The generational curse. The bad habit or the unfortunate life circumstance. Let me clarify that this is ONLY done with the help and grace of God! But we do play a roll in it. God initiates and we respond!
So here are three tips to breaking the vicious cycles in your life as we do the same!
Remember your WHY- We need a powerful reason to change. The deeper the “why” the more important it will be to do what it takes to change. “to go where you’ve never been, you have to do what you’ve never done.” 1 Cor 10:31.
Remember the BOILING POINT- At 211 degrees F water is hot. Very hot (like my wife). At 212 degrees F water boils. Boiling water creates steam and steam powers trains. So the difference between 1 degree of temperature (or effort in this context) can be the difference between having hot water and a moving train! So push through, 1 “degree” more can make all the difference. Gal 6:9
Remember RESISTANCE IS NORMAL- Similar to how a doctor will apply pressure until they expose the pain point we also need to embrace the journey of breaking chains. It will be painful. freeing. exhilarating! And most likely difficult. We will experience resistance from community, the enemy and also ourselves. So have a plan for when that resistance comes. Eph 6:10-11
