Recovering Expectancy
It’s about time, ya know?
Haven’t you waited enough? Gone through enough? Lived anxiously enough?
Maybe it’s time to live with expectancy again.
If you're like me, life has jaded you a little bit.
You’ve got some dirt under your fingernails, maybe some scars on your hands.
Hardships and sin have sometimes built a wall between you and God instead of a bridge back to Him.
I’ve prayed more than once for God to renew my innocence—to recover that childlike faith, that expectant hope, that deep security knowing He’s got me.
I’m heading into a retreat this week and as I’ve been preparing my heart, I had this thought:
Why don’t I live like this every day?
Why do I only stir my expectancy for the big moments—graduations, weddings, births, fancy retreats?
God is in the details of every single day.
I can live expectantly not just in the ceremonies, but in the ordinary.
And so can you.
Here’s the challenge:
Shake the dirt off your boots.
Dust yourself off.
Let go of yesterday’s trauma so you can embrace today’s blessings.
Maybe that means:
Getting honest and vulnerable with the Lord in prayer.
Forgiving someone you’ve been holding back from forgiving.
Walking away from a situation you know God’s been nudging you to leave behind.
Let’s take a step TOWARD God—joyfully, expectantly—trusting that He’ll take a step toward us too.
"Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you." (James 4:8)
David is not allowed to build God’s temple because he ________.
This made me think of how we are God’s children but there is still correction, discipline and consequences to our actions. And while we are saved by His grace it is important for us to still live upright lives in every decision/action big or small! Just convicted me a bit and made me want to do better in all areas of life so I don’t miss out on things God wants for me! Go sign up for Hillsdale’s FREE online courses!
