When God Asks the Question
You have probably asked God a bunch of questions but have you been asked a question by God?
I know—that’s a weird question to ask when you’re just trying to enjoy your peaceful Sunday (or whatever day you read this) 😅… but stick with me.
In the Garden of Eden, after Adam and Eve made a huge mistake, they hid. And God called out to them: “Where are you?”
When Elijah was hiding in a cave, worn down and afraid, God asked him: “What are you doing here?”
And after Peter denied Jesus three times, Jesus came to him and asked: “Do you love me?” (not once, but three times).
Now, I’m sure we agree God is all-knowing, then why is He asking questions He already knows the answers to?
The short answer?
For us.
Because while God already knows where we’re hiding, why we’re there, and what’s in our hearts—sometimes we don’t. Or, in my specific case, I was afraid to admit the answers.
But watch this next part:
Adam and Eve were naked & ashamed... so God clothed & covered them.
Elijah was exhausted and afraid... so God gave him rest and comfort.
Peter was broken... and Jesus restored him.
There’s a quote we love: “While you read the Bible, the Bible reads you.” Scripture will bring up stuff, expose things, and cause us to look within ourselves. The sad reality is that, a lot of us, are avoiding that sort of confrontation with God and His word so, I’d love to leave you with this.
So what is God asking you today?
Where are you hiding?
What are you doing in where you currently are?
What’s going on in your heart?
Let’s not rush past those questions. The more we understand where we are and who we think we are, the more we can receive how God shows up for us & who God is calling us to be.
Genesis 16:3 should be translated to read that Sarai gave Hagar to Abram as a ____?
I included this question because I wanted to share some of the beautiful detail Hillsdale’s free courses go into…There is something far deeper than Sarah giving Abraham her “cocubine” when scripture says “as a wife”. These are the details that Go sign up for Hillsdale’s FREE online courses! So thankful to partner with them!
