Realizing we were wrong…

This is hard to write. As we were reflecting on how incredibly redeeming Noah’s birth experience was in comparison to Micah’s, we came to a very uncomfortable realization…

we didn’t want God. we wanted God to do what we wanted.

Let us explain. These birth stories felt so different. One felt (excuse our language) like hell. And the other felt Holy. We thought the first experience was because God didn’t show up, but it really was that God didn’t show up the way we wanted Him too.

We should have been praying for His comfort and peace but in actuality we were praying to not need His comfort and peace. We wanted to escape the pain, not to be comforted inside of it.

Now we don’t say this to beat ourselves up, but just a humbling reminder to worship God because He is God, not just because He showers his children with blessings.

In Daniel Chapter 3 you read a powerful story about how Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego are confronted by Nebuchadnezzar and are told that they would be throne into the fiery furnace if they did not worship his gods.

Their response is what is so shocking. They said, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”

When faced with this situation they didn’t doubt God’s existence or His Goodness, they didn’t cry out and say God has forgotten them, they knew their God would deliver them in one way or another. And they found comfort in the “furnace” because there was another in the fire. Standing next to them!
