Destruction was protection

Hey there!

So… the winter storm came, it saw, it flooded our basement, but it didn’t conquer.
It actually helped us in a weird way, and we hope this email helps you too.

We thought we were scot-free from damage from the storm, minus some tree damage, etc.
If you want to see our vlog where we discover the flood, you can click here. Honestly, it’s a cute video and was fun to get a wholesome 30+ minute vlog up!

But as I was downstairs, I heard almost a clicking sound, and what transpired next was literally like a movie.

I walked around listening, trying to find where this sound was coming from, and then I felt water fall on my foot.
I looked up, and another drop hit me smack in the head. Haha (I was not laughing when it happened)

Uh oh.

We opened up the ceiling to drain the water, there was a lot, and find the culprit.
Most likely a frozen drain that burst.

But what that flood exposed was way, way, way, way, way worse.

Our entire ceiling was covered in mold.
We had no idea. Keep in mind, this house was total gut renovated last year.

Most of you know this, but for those who don’t, mold is a quick way to really damage your health and immune system.
It can really mess you up.
It is especially dangerous for littles.

So something that we wished didn’t happen, and something that disrupted and threatened our family, turned into something we are actually thankful for.
It helped protect our family.

Life is funny like that.

So many things we go through only make sense in hindsight.
That doesn’t mean sickness is caused on purpose, or incredibly traumatic experiences are only to teach us a lesson.

But what we notice through those seasons, and who we become inside of them, is so important.

More often than not, those revelations are noticed in hindsight, but this situation was cool.
We saw the blessing within the same twenty-four hours that everything went down. Which definitely softened the blow a bit.

The situation still sucks for lack of better phrases.
The finances really set us back.
The annoyance about it all is still nagging at our heads.

But our heart posture and mindset changed.

Destruction was protection in this instance.

We don’t know what God is doing in your life right now.
Maybe you are on mountaintops experiencing win after win.
Or maybe you are in the valley wondering if this metaphorical rain cloud will ever move away from you.

Regardless of where you are at, God is moving.
He is there for you.
He does care about you.
He is working around us and inside of us.

Let’s pray for eyes to see Him where He is, and not just worry about where He isn’t.
