Let’s Stop Thinking Small
Are we just thinking too small?
Maybe we’re playing it too safe.
Maybe we’re living out of our own limitations because that’s all our circumstances seem to call for...
But what if there’s more for me and you?
I just got back from a man/God trip to Montana and was challenged—to pursue more, to be more, to do more, to live more.
To create more.
To honor more.
To love more.
To persevere more.
To more.
Let me be clear—I’m not talking about achieving more or collecting more things.
This isn’t about us.
This has everything to do with God and what more He has for us.
I realized I’ve been living under my own limitations. Things are hard, so my heart becomes hardened and I live out from there.
Just accepting the hole I’m in as normal.
Going day by day, feeling stuck—but not seeing any way out. But hey, that’s life right?!
And the Holy Spirit revealed something super specific to me:
I haven’t been inviting joy into my home.
I haven’t been playing with my kids the way I could.
I haven’t been pursuing my wife with lightheartedness and honestly some flirtiness.
I haven’t been genuinely laughing.
I haven’t been having fun.
And honestly?
I’ve just been letting my to-do list or my circumstances tell me how to act.
and then I justify those actions: “Once I get this done, I’ll play,” or “I’ll be more light-hearted once life calms down.”
But then another day passes.
And another.
And another.
And I keep living a life where my joy is overwhelmed by my situation, instead of my joy overwhelming my situation.
But deep down, I know—like you know—there’s a better way.
I know there’s more.
More of Christ.
More joy.
More fruit of the spirit.
More fullness.
And it starts by realizing we don’t have to keep living like this.
Here’s what helped me:
I talked with Godly men and invited the Holy Spirit to speak into areas where I’ve been living small or settling for less.
I asked God to show me one thing I needed to work on—and He did.
I went to Scripture to fight back against the lies I’ve been living in. (One example? Look at the joy Paul had while in prison. That hit me.)
I asked God not to let me go alone. Because left to my own ability? I’m stuck. But with God guiding and empowering me? That’s what Philippians 4:11 is all about.
So let’s stop playing small. Shrinking our opportunity for a better more fulfilling life to our own capacity.
Let’s stop normalizing the dysfunction of a broken world.
Let’s start getting excited to live in the fullness of Christ.
Let His joy, His power, His presence overwhelm our situations— instead of the other way around.
There’s more for you and more for me.
